Manchester City are keen on securing the long-term future of Erling Haaland. They want to reward the Norwegian international for his exceptional performances since joining the club. He is willing to pen down a new deal but according to a report from Football Insider, negotiations have stalled due to discussions over a possible release clause.
City want to secure Haaland’s long-term future
Haaland made the move to the Premier League in the summer of 2022 from Borussia Dortmund. He has taken the English top flight by storm and has even helped Manchester City clinch their first-ever Champions League title.
In just 102 outings for the Manchester-based club, the former Dortmund striker has scored 97 goals and he even has 14 assists to his name. While he still has three years left on his deal at City, the English club want to reward him for his exceptional performances and they want to secure his long-term future at the club.
Haaland insists on a release clause before renewing
At 24, Haaland is already one of the world’s best and it is quite evident why City have been pushing for a new deal for some time now. But, the talks regarding a new contract haven’t made any progress in the recent past as the Norwegian forward is keen on having a release clause in any new deal he signs.
The former Dortmund striker and his representatives had negotiated a similar deal with an exit clause at the German club which is why City could secure his services by triggering his release for just £51 million. While the eventual fee did go up to £86 million because of the agent fee and signing-on bonus, the initial release clause ensured Haaland had a big say on his future.
While he is ready to sign a new deal at City, he is looking for a similar arrangement amidst interest in his services from European giants Real Madrid. The team in white have been linked with the 24-year-old on quite a few occasions. They are considered to be a potential future destination for the City striker and a decent release clause will ensure Haaland can secure his dream move when the time comes.
