Aston Villa in transfer tussle to sign Jonathan David

Aston Villa will reportedly compete with Inter Milan and Juventus in the race to secure the services of 24-year-old LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David next year.

According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Jonathan David is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on signing a striker next year amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Jhon Duran. However, the West Midlands club will compete with Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus for the 24-year-old LOSC Lille striker in 2025.

Jonathan David and his journey in Ligue 1

Jonathan David has been among the best players in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from KAA Gent in August 2020. While the striker has not been consistent throughout his spell with Les Dogues, he has been a talismanic figure for the French club in the last four years.

The 24-year-old was exceptional in the 2023/24 season, amassing 26 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. David has been hot off the blocks in the new campaign, finding the back of the three times while providing two assists in seven outings thus far.

However, Jonathan David’s long-term future at LOSC Lille is uncertain after entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Ligue 1 club. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, with Aston Villa among the Canadian international striker’s prospective suitors.

Premier League beckons?

Aston Villa’s interest in Jonathan David is understandable. The West Midlands outfit kept Jhon Duran at Villa Park beyond the summer transfer window, and the Colombian international has made his mark in the early days of the 2024/25 season. However, the youngster’s long-term future at Aston Villa remains uncertain.

So, David is a viable target for Aston Villa, and he can be a handy partner to Ollie Watkins in the final third. However, the Villans are not alone in the race to secure the Canadian striker’s services next year.

Serie A might be the next destination for the 24-year-old, with Inter Milan and Juventus vying for his signature. So, it will be interesting to see where David lands next year if he leaves LOSC Lille, with Aston Villa also in the running for his signature after enquiring about him this past summer.
