Federico Chiesa was reportedly offered to Bayern Munich earlier in the transfer window, although they had other priorities.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Bayern Munich could have signed Federico Chiesa when the winger was offered to them in the summer. The Bavarians had different plans, as they brought in Michael Olise as their top target in the window.
Bayern Munich had Federico Chiesa chance
Bayern Munich generally had a solid summer window, during which they managed to bring in key reinforcements while offloading a few unwanted stars. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui left for Manchester United, while Michael Olise’s arrival highlighted their transfer business.
Olise, in particular, was a surprising signing, considering many top Premier League teams were keen on him. More so, he chose to join a Bayern Munich side full of exciting attacking talents and open to any level of competition for places.
Before Olise’s arrival, Bayern Munich were offered the chance to sign Federico Chiesa, but they refused to make a move. The Italian joined Liverpool in the latter stages of the window in a low-cost deal. Hence, Bayern, as they invested heavily in the signing of Olise, was not behind a cut-price deal to strengthen their attack but rather wanted top-draw quality for the long-term future.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chiesa was indeed offered to Bayern in the window and suggested that the Bavarians were after a different kind of player. The Italian has had his fair share of injury issues in the past and was out of the Juventus plan when Liverpool swooped in and got him on the cheap.
Romano said, “Yes, Bayern were offered this possibility in June but their top target was always a different kind of player like Olise – a different player with different skills.” “They appreciated Chiesa but they were not looking for that kind of player.”
Is Chiesa a gamble for Liverpool?
As Bayern Munich ignored the idea of Chiesa, the Italian was also offered to Aston Villa, who could not enter the race for financial reasons. Considering how little Liverpool eventually paid for the winger, Villa could have conjured up the money to get a deal in place.
As for Liverpool, he does represent top quality that bolsters their already formidable-looking attacking setup. Given how low the price point was, they might have taken a gable on him. A lot of clubs needed a winger, but Liverpool took the chance to bring him, although there are doubts it will take a while for Chiesa to start games for Arne Slot’s men.
