Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has been linked with a move to Galatasaray in recent weeks, and Arsenal’s stance on a sale has been revealed.
Jorginho is reportedly a for Galatasaray ahead of this week’s Turkish summer transfer deadline. However, a report from talkSPORT has claimed that Arsenal are unwilling to sanction his departure.
Arsenal are lacking in depth in the central midfield department, and it is no surprise that they want to keep the experienced midfielder at the club. The transfer window in Turkiye closes on the 13th of September, and Galatasaray have been hoping to sign the 57-cap Italian international before that.
Jorginho has been an important player for Arsenal since joining the club from Chelsea, and the experienced midfielder, who is on £110,000-a-week wages, will be a useful option for Mikel Arteta this season as well.
Arsenal will be hoping to compete for major trophies this season, and they need a deeper squad. Arteta will have to rotate his players to keep them fresh during the key stages of the season. Therefore, it is no surprise that they are unwilling to let the player leave.
Jorginho is a useful option for Arsenal
Although the 32-year-old is not a regular starter for Arsenal, he remains a key part of their first team squad. The veteran midfielder is unlikely to force an exit from Arsenal this month. He will want to compete at the highest level at this stage of his career and he will feel that he can win trophies with Arsenal.
The Gunners came close to winning the league title in the last two seasons, and there is no reason why they cannot go all the way this time around. Arsenal have signed Mikel Merino from La Liga club Real Sociedad earlier this summer. But the Spaniard is currently sidelined with an injury. Arsenal simply cannot afford to weaken their squad any further.
With the Premier League transfer window now closed, they will not be able to bring in a quality replacement for Jorginho. So, letting Jorginho leave does not make any sense. Arsenal must wait until the January transfer window before making a decision to sell any player. They will need a big squad to compete across multiple fronts, and they should only sanction departures once they have secured a replacement for them.
