Newcastle United eyeing Antony swoop

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are considering making a move for the services of £86 million Manchester United flop Antony.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Newcastle United will look to reinforce their attack in the winter transfer window and they are considering making a move for the services of Antony. The Magpies seek more depth on the flanks and Eddie Howe feels the Manchester United flop could help their cause.

The Tyneside club didn’t have the best of transfer windows. They missed out on a few of their top targets and William Osula was their only attacking signing of the summer. While they might not have been at their best in the recently concluded window, Newcastle have started planning for the winter and they are keen on bolstering the flanks.

Antony’s time at Manchester United

Antony made a name for himself at Ajax before securing a £86 million move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022. The 24-year-old winger hasn’t been able to get going at the Manchester-based club and he only has 11 goals and five assists in his 83 outings.

The move to United hasn’t worked out for him and Newcastle United could offer him a way out in the winter. The Brazilian international has been on the pitch for just a minute in the new season and he seems to be way down the pecking order.

While Erik ten Hag is a huge admirer of the winger, he doesn’t seem keen on backing him anymore. While he still has three years left on his deal, the Red Devils are reportedly ready to negotiate his departure for a fee of around £40 million.

Eddie Howe is keen on signing Antony

Eddie Howe’s team are interested in signing the 24-year-old as they look to add more quality out wide on the flanks. While their priority target is Anthony Elanga, they will look at the United winger if they fail to sign the Nottingham Forest star.

Despite Antony’s struggles at the Manchester-based club, Howe feels he could bounce back with a move away from the club. The English manager is a huge admirer of the Brazilian winger’s abilities and believes he could be a valuable addition to their squad.

Meanwhile, the players is also keen on a move to the Tyneside club. More importantly, Newcastle seem willing to meet United’s demands as the new asking price is well within their reach.
