Manchester City keen on Marc Guehi

Manchester City are keen on Marc Guehi next summer Crystal Palace could come under pressure to sell the Newcastle United-linked defender.

According to The Sun, Manchester City could join the race for Marc Guehi next summer, as the defender could be on the move. Newcastle United failed with multiple bids for the centre-back this summer, as Crystal Palace could come under pressure with the England international’s situation.

Manchester City in Marc Guehi’s chase

Marc Guehi has established himself as one of the formidable defenders in the Premier League, and it was surprising that only Newcastle United made great efforts to sign him. The Magpies failed with four separate bids, with their last one coming close to the £60 million mark.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish wanted ‘superstar money’ as reports stated they wanted somewhere in the £70-75 million range. Eventually any move to Newcastle United was ruled out on deadline day, which does make his situation at Selhurst Park unclear, as his current deal expires, and there are reports that Crystal Palace are ready to open contract talks

The current situation states that Guehi is relaxed about the new contract talks and wants to concentrate on his football, as he’s not giving any assurances about committing his future. Manchester City are now interested in the defender, as Pep Guardiola could eye the 24-year-old and bring him to the Etihad next summer.

Guardiola is open to adding a player of the 24-year-old’s quality in his backline, as next summer, Man City could look to make a change to his backline. Whether Guehi will have more suitors then remains th question, as Palace will undoubtedly come under pressure to sell if he cannot commit to a new deal.

Crystal Palace under pressure

Palace may have warded off Newcastle’s overtures and kept hold of Guehi, but his current deal could dictate future terms. For instance, the Eagles cannot ask for ‘superstar money’ for him next summer as nobody will pay him, which does leave Guehi in danger of running down his existing deal and leaving for free.

There are suggestions that in a bid to convince the defender to sign a new deal, Palace could reportedly include a release clause that could suit Guehi. As things stand, Palace is under pressure to get the best out of any agreement for Guehi, although it appears that they will have to convince the player to commit and sell him for good value next summer.
