Barcelona plot Bosman move for Jonathan Tah

Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 28-year-old Bundesliga-winning defender Jonathan Tah in a Bosman move if his Bayer Leverkusen contract expires.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Jonathan Tah is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Bayer Leverkusen defender has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Bundesliga champions. So, the Catalan giants are considering a Bosman move for the 28-year-old centre-back.

Jonathan Tah and his career so far

Jonathan Tah has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga in the last few years. While he is a veteran of the German top flight after playing in the competition for a decade, he has only become a consistent performer at the back for Bayer Leverkusen under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.

With the Spanish tactician bringing the best out of him, the 28-year-old was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen winning the 2023/24 Bundesliga title. Tah has turned out over 350 times thus far for Die Werkself while chipping in with 14 goals and 12 assists.

However, the Bundesliga champions are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of the German international, who has less than 12 months remaining on his contract. Meanwhile, Jonathan Tah’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.

Barcelona still interested in Tah

Barcelona considered signing Jonathan Tah in a cut-price move in the summer transfer window before a move failed to materialise. The continued interest from the Blaugrana is understandable after he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. With Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo facing an uncertain long-term future at the club, Barcelona can do with someone like Tah.

So, the 28-year-old Bundesliga-winning defender has emerged as a viable target for the Catalan outfit. A Bosman move might be on the cards if Bayer Leverkusen cannot tie Tah to a new deal in the coming months.

The German international will be eligible to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Germany after the turn of the year if he has not signed a new deal with Bayer Leverkusen. So, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can capitalise on the situation and land Tah in a Bosman move next summer.
