Viktor Gyiokeres could be ready to commit his future to Sporting CP amid heavy interest from Premier League giants.
According to HITC, Viktor Gyokeres could be in line for a new contract as he’s showing signs of committing his future to Sporting CP. A host of Premier League sides, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, held an interest in the Swedish forward, although a move never materialised.
Viktor Gyokeres to sign new Sporting CP deal?
A striker, after a 43-goal season for a club, will be expecting a big contract on his table, irrespective of what the future holds. When it comes to Portuguese sides, their business model dictates cashing in on such talents, although Sporting CP have stood foirm to considerable challenges in the summer.
While none of the top clubs made any official bids for Gyokeres, those offers would have arrived had Sporting CP softened their stance on the asking price. The Portuguese side were demanding his entire €100 million release clause, and the Seerdish star did not force a move through either.
Arsenal had sent scouts to watch the player in action last season and at the start of the current campaign. While they were linked with a new frontman, only Raheem Sterling arrived on loan on deadline day. Similarly, Chelsea were keen, and so were Liverpool, who hoped to land him for around €70 million, while Manchester United also looked at him closely.
The decision from Gyokeres not tpo push for a big move to England had something to do with manager Ruben Amorim’s stance to stay put. And while the report states that he’s ready to commit his future to Sporting CP by signing a new deal, he will have expected that contract to arrive after a stellar goalscoring season.
The new contract will not block the sale
As is the policy of Portuguese sides to cash in on their talents when the value soars, many had expected Sporting to do so with Gyokeres. Instead, they are now risking the forward to spend another season in Portugal, although the Swede has shown no signs of slowing down after netting seven goals from five games already.
Those interested Premier League sides might have wanted to wait for another season to gauge his talents better and confirm that a 43-goal season wasn’t a fluke. Even if Gyokeres signs a new deal, Sporting may not block a prospective big move next summer.
