Ben Chilwell relaxed about Chelsea future amid Manchester United links

Manchester United target Ben Chilwell is in no hurry to leave Chelsea despite being excluded from the first-team.

According to a report from Football Insider, Ben Chilwell is in no rush to part ways with Chelsea despite not being in the plans of their new manager Enzo Maresca. The England international was linked with a move to Manchester United but it didn’t materialise before 30th August’s deadline day and he now looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell came up the ranks at Leicester City and made a name for himself while playing for their first team. He then secured a big-money move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020.  The 27-year-old was an integral part of their first team in the initial seasons but things haven’t been that great for him of late.

He struggled last season because of multiple injuries and was involved in just 21 matches throughout the campaign. While the English full-back was the Chelsea vice-captain under Mauricio Pochettino, he has gone way down the pecking order under Maresca.

Chilwell was handed a new deal last year which runs until the summer of 2027. While he was an important part of their squad until last season, the 27-year-old is not in the Italian manager’s plans as he feels the former Foxes full-back is not an ideal player for his brand of football.

Chilwell to remain at Stamford Bridge

The Blues were looking to sanction the departure of the English international before Friday’s 11 pm cut-off time and Manchester United were one of the clubs linked with him. But, things didn’t go according to plan. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia do not have the best of fitness records and United were looking for more depth on the left flank.

While they were in talks to sign the 27-year-old, a deal couldn’t be struck in time. Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah who were surplus to requirements at Chelsea left the club on deadline day but they still have Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and David Datro Fofana on their books despite them not being in Maresca’s plans.

While the transfer window in Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Portugal and the Netherlands remains open, Chilwell is in no rush to leave the Blues after having evaluated his options.
