Chelsea astonished Carney Chukwuemeka did not leave the club this summer

Chelsea are surprised that Carney Chukwuemeka stayed at Stamford Bridge, contrary to expectations that he would be sold.

According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Chelsea are stunned to see Carney Chukwuemeka has not left the club following the end of the transfer window last week. Enzo Maresca along with the club’s hierarchy were certain that they would be able to offload him before the end of the window. But things did not go according to plan for them.

The Blues were quite busy on the transfer deadline day as they sanctioned the departure of Trevoh Chalobah, Djordje Petrovic, Armando Broja and Raheem Sterling on loan. While they surely did a great job, the West London club did not succeed in offloading everyone who was considered to be surplus to requirements.

Chelsea wanted to offload Chukwuemeka

Chelsea still have a few players who were not in the plans of Enzo Maresca, and Carney Chukwuemeka is one of them. The Italian manager now faces a massive dilemma as he looks for a way to reintegrate him into his first-team plans, although he has denied those players will feature for his team.

Chelsea are surprised to see the 20-year-old continue at Stamford Bridge as they were in talks with a few clubs regarding a move away before Friday’s 11 pm cut-off time. The English youth international made the move to the London club in the summer of 2022 after coming up the ranks and making a name for himself while playing for Aston Villa.

While he still had four years left on his £100,000-a-week contract, the Blues were ready to sell the youngster, who is protected by a £40 million release clause. Chelsea were in talks with multiple clubs but none were ready to meet Chelsea’s demands.

Manchester United did explore a move for Chukwuemeka

West Ham United were one of the clubs linked with the highly-rated English midfielder. However,  apart from them, Manchester United also explored the possibility of signing Chukwuemeka towards the very end of the transfer window.

The Red Devils were looking for more depth, and they felt he could have been a great signing for the short as well as the long run. But, things did not go according to plan. The 20-year-old is all set to undergo a few difficult months at Stamford Bridge before they once again look to offload him in the winter.
