Everton want to sign Elijah Adebayo in January, Crystal Palace also keen

Everton plotting a raid on Luton Town to sign Elijah Adebayo in January amidst interest from Crystal Palace.

According to ReluctantNicko via Patreon, Everton have started planning for life without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and they are looking at Luton Town’s Elijah Adebayo as an ideal replacement. The Toffees are expected to knock on the Hatters’ door when the transfer window reopens in January.

Adebayo made the move to Luton at the start of 2021 from Walsall and he hasn’t looked back since. He played an important part in helping them secure promotion to the English top flight and backed it up with a decent campaign last time out.

In just 27 Premier League outings, the 26-year-old found the back of the 10 times last season. But, his efforts were not good enough to help Luton survive in the top flight. But his performances didn’t go unnoticed and Everton are one of the clubs keen on bringing him back to the English first division.

Everton pushing for the services of Elijah Adebayo

Sean Dyche is expected to make the English striker his priority target for the winter transfer window. The Everton boss expects Dominic Calvert-Lewin to leave the club at some stage in the near future and they have been keeping a close eye on Adebayo to replace him.

The Toffees manager would have tabled an offer for the Luton striker last week if they had managed to sanction the departure of Calver-Lewin. While things didn’t go according to plan during the summer, Dyche is expected to be back in the winter to sign him.

Meanwhile, the Championship outfit are ready to sanction his departure for a fee of around £15 million to £20 million. Calvert-Lewin’s current contract runs out in less than 12 months time and he hasn’t agreed to pen down a new deal yet. As a result, pushing for his departure does make sense and the money raised would be enough to bring Adebayo to the club.

Crystal Palace to battle Everton for Adebayo

But, they are not the only club keen on signing the 26-year-old as Crystal Palace are also monitoring him. Jean-Philippe Mateta has attracted a significant amount of interest in recent months and if he does end up leaving, the Eagles will go hard to sign Adebayo from Luton.

While Palace wanted to hand Mateta a new deal, there has been little progress on that front which suggests he could be looking to move to a bigger club.
