Chelsea keen on signing Joao Rego

Chelsea are keeping close tabs on Benfica teenager Joao Rego ahead of the next window, as they ponder approaching.

According to Record, Chelsea are showing keen interest in Benfica teenager Joao Rego. The young attacker has been racking in good reviews for his performances in the youth teams, as the Blues might ponder making an approach upon further evaluation of his talents in the coming months.

Chelsea are looking at Joao Rego

At this point, it’s not a surprise if Chelsea chases an up-and-coming young player from another club and pays a good enough price that the parent side refuses. The Blues have been relentless in their quest to bring some of the best young profiles from around and make them part of their future project.

While they have managed to sign numerous talents ever since the Clearlake Capital-led takeover two years ago, those incoming stars do not necessarily get a crack at the first team at Stamford Bridge. Through a complex system of loans and sending them to sister club Strasbourg, Chelsea has had some level of success in what they are trying to build.

They are onto another talent, with Benfica’s Joao Rego mentioned as a potential target for Chelsea in future windows. Currently in his development phase, the 19-year-old attacking sensation can play across different positions in the final third, including as an attacking midfielder if needed.

Chelsea could evaluate this talent in the coming months and then decide on whether a move is reasonable around the winter market. For now, the player might have known of his interest but might stay grounded in his development as he is making significant strides and is now close to making a first-team breakthrough, having been regularly training with the main group for extended periods.

Chelsea’s summer transfer business

Chelsea have been by far the most active club in the summer window that only closed last night. In a late activity, they agreed on a loan deal for Jadon Sancho while letting Raheem Sterling join Arsenal on a temporary contract.

Meanwhile, they also signed many young players during the window, with Aston Villa’s Omari Kellyman and Boca Juniors’ Aaron Anselmino standing out in that regard. They also managed to bring in many well-known names through the door, as the fans will hope for a better season than last time out.
