West Ham United considering last-gasp move for Carney Chukwuemeka

West Ham United are planning a last-minute move to sign Chelsea midfield sensation Carney Chukwuemeka on deadline day.

Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United have had a sensational transfer window. They have significantly bolstered their squad by signing eight new players in this window. But, the Hammers are not done yet. According to a report from The Guardian, they are plotting a late deadline day move for Carney Chukwuemeka.

The English youth international came up the ranks at Aston Villa after joining them back in 2016. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2021. While he was involved in just 14 first-team matches during his debut campaign, there was still a significant amount of interest in the 20-year-old because of his performances at the youth level.

Multiple clubs were keen on his signature, but Chelsea managed to win the race for his services in the summer of 2022. The move to Stamford Bridge has not really gone according to plan for the youngster as he has only featured in 27 matches across the last two seasons and has been on the pitch for a limited amount of time.

After being out injured for most parts of last season, the English midfielder, who is surplus to requirements at Chelsea, is keen on securing a move to a club where he could play regular first-team football. While he still has four years left on his deal at Chelsea, the former Aston Villa midfielder has been linked with a move to West Ham.

West Ham pushing for a midfielder on deadline day

Lopetegui’s team have made significant additions to their squad. But Guido Rodríguez is their only midfield recruit from this summer, and the Spanish manager is not satisfied with that. He wants to add more quality to the centre of the park, and the Hammers have been pushing to sign Carlos Soler and Carney Chukwuemeka.

While they have agreed a deal in principle with PSG to sign Soler on a season-long, the Hammers are also in the running for the services of the English youngster. Chukwuemeka is keen for more game time, and a temporary move to West Ham could be great for his development.

But, it will be interesting to see if the London club would be willing to sign both Soler and Chukwuemeka. West Ham’s sporting director Tim Steidten is a huge fan of the 20-year-old and would love to have him at their disposal. The Hammers have been plotting a last-gasp move for the Chelsea midfielder’s services, and allowing James Ward-Prowse to join Nottingham Forest on loan will make room for a new midfielder.
