Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up a late move to sign 22-year-old Swedish attacker Anthony Elanga from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest.
According to an update on The Guardian’s transfer update feed, Anthony Elanga is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their attack before the summer transfer window shuts down and have set their sights on the Nottingham Forest winger. Meanwhile, the Premier League club will demand around £30 million to sell the Swedish attacker.
Anthony Elanga and his career so far
Anthony Elanga has found a stable footing since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United last summer. The Premier League club coughed up a cut-price fee to sign the Swede, who has been a regular in the final third for the East Midlands outfit in the last 12 months.
The 22-year-old has not been at the races thus far in the 2024/24 season, even though he has featured in all three games thus far for the Tricky Trees. Elanga has turned out 42 times for Nottingham Forest while chipping in with five goals and nine assists.
While Anthony Elanga’s output has not set the stage alight, his stock in the market remains high, with several well-known clubs setting their sights on him. Newcastle United considered a move for the Sweden international several weeks ago before a deal failed to materialise. The Magpies have reignited their interest in the former Manchester United attacker.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Newcastle United’s interest in Anthony Elanga is understandable. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their attack before the summer transfer window shuts down. They have been eager to part ways with Miguel Almiron this summer, although his recent links with Fulham have fizzled out.
Nevertheless, Almiron might leave Newcastle United before the summer transfer deadline, with Elanga emerging as a target to replace the Paraguay international. However, the 22-year-old Swedish winger will not come cheap, with Nottingham Forest demanding around £30 million to part ways with him.
The Premier League club’s asking price is steep, considering Elanga’s output thus far. However, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United will cough up £30 million to sign the Swede from Nottingham Forest before Friday’s summer transfer deadline.
