Federico Chiesa reported rejected approaches from Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal to pursue a move to Liverpool.
According to TBR, Federico Chiesa reporteldy rejected overtures from Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham before choosing Liverpool as his preferred destination. The Italian international was out of the new Juventus project, as the Merseysiders snapped him up in a cut-price deal
Federico Chiesa rejected top clubs
This is the claim from the report, which states that Federico Chiesa apparently rejected the overtures of top English clubs. He has made his move to Liverpool as of Thursday by paying a paltry sum of around £10 million initially, as Juventus would also receive some performance-related add-ons going forwards.
Chiesa was frozen out of Juventus’ plans following the arrival of new manager Thiago Motta, who reportedly made it clear the winger was not needed at the club. With a year left on his deal, he could have moved to another Italian side next summer for free, although he chose to continue elsewhere, with Barcelona one of those keen on signing him.
He reportedly had a preference for the Catalans, although there are plenty of financial troubles that may have made any move to the club complicated for Chiesa. The 26-year-old reported turning down overtures from top clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, as there was interest from those sides even before Liverpool entered the conversation.
Arsenal and Chelsea were among the sides that had considered Chiesa in the final stages of the window. The Gunners do need a new winger to shore up their attack, which looks short at the moment, while the Blues are still linked with Jadon Sancho as of Thursday. Hence, there’s every chance of them being in the race for the 26-year-old Italian, although the idea of rejecting those sides seems stretched.
Liverpool’s bargain signing
Tottenham sought information on Chiesa in the last few days, and could have done the move, although there are doubts whether Ange Postecoglou wants another winger after adding Wilson Odobert. Either way, whether or not Chiesa rejected those three London sides, he does seem like a decent fit at Liverpool.
Liverpool might have taken a risk on this signing following his glorified injury record in the recent past. There are questions about whether he can adapt to the physicality of the Premier League. However, the Merseysiders would not care even if he cannot deliver right from the get-go, considering how little they paid to bring a top Italian international to Anfield. Chiesa could be the bargain of this summer.
