Crystal Palace ponder last-gasp loan move for Trevoh Chalobah

Crystal Palace are exploring a late move for Trevoh Chalobah ahead of the transfer deadline with Chelsea eager to offload the defender.

According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are exploring a late move for Chelsea outcast Trevoh Chalobah. The 25-year-old utility man does not feature in the club’s plans, as the Eagles are now considering the idea of shoring up their defence with a loan approach.

Crystal Palace are considering Trevoh Chalobah move

It has been a relatively quiet day in the office for Crystal Palace after news broke out that Newcastle United will not sign Marc Guehi. Instead, it has been speculated that the defender will stay put at Selhurst Park, which could be related to the Magpies’ inability to agree on a transfer.

Having lost Joachim Andersen to Fulham earlier, they had sufficiently shored up the backline with the arrivals of Chadi Riad and then Maxence Lacroix. However, they might have gone for another tender had Guehi left the club on deadline day. In any case, they had been interested in Trevoh Chalobah and now they are considering a move to sign the 25-year-old Chelsea utility man.

There’s still enough time left in this window for Palace to make a move for Chalobah. Newcastle United had also considered him earlier as an alternative to Guehi, and there could be the case that they might enter the race late on. However, Palace seems like the only club showing concrete interest and could make a loan approach for the current season.

While they have not made a formal approach yet, the prospect is very much alive in the case of the 25-year-old Chelsea utility man. Should they bring the english defender, the Eagles will have a solid enough defence with Chalobah, Chris Richards, Riad and Guehi. The move from Palace could also be a result of the extent of Riad’s injury status.

Chelsea desperate to offload Chalobah

Chelsea boss Maresca has publicly said that players who are not part of the first-team squad will not get any minutes this season. Chalobah is part of the group banished away from the senior group, as Chelsea will look for solutions, as they reporteldy wanted £20-25 million for the defender.

With Crystal Palace offering only thinking about a loan deal, there is still no clarity on whether they plan to include a buy option of any sort. Chelsea will insist on it and could even push to include a mandatory purchase clause, as they are keen to offload the 25-year-old.
