Chelsea hold talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over late Evan Ferguson move

Chelsea have held talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over Evan Ferguson as they seek an alternative to Victor Osimhen on deadline day.

Chelsea’s search for a new number nine continues as we head into the final hours of the transfer window. According to Jacob Steinberg via The Guardian, the Blues are looking at Brighton’s Evan Ferguson as an alternative to their priority target Victor Osimhen.

Ferguson joined the Seagulls at the start of 2021 and in just over 18 months, he was promoted to their first team. On the back of an impressive debut campaign for their first team, he had a more prominent role last season. But, an ankle injury towards the end of the season has derailed his progress.

He has missed a significant amount of games and has only returned this week. Despite that, there has been a significant amount of interest in the 19-year-old Irish striker’s services. While he did pen down a new deal that runs until 2029 towards the end of last year, clubs are still trying to prise him away.

Chelsea pushing for Ferguson as Osimhen alternative

Chelsea have emerged as a potential destination for the Irish international very late in the transfer window. The Blues want to bring in a new striker who can lead their attack. Despite having bolstered their attack by adding Joao Felix and Marc Guiu, they want another out-and-out striker.

Osimhen has been their top priority since the start of summer. Multiple reports suggested that they were on the verge of signing the Napoli ace. But, Al-Ahli have reportedly reached an agreement with the Italian outfit to sign the Nigerian international.

The Blues have realised that they need to look for an alternative and have set their eyes on Ferguson, who is considered to be a huge prospect for the future. They have already held talks with Brighton regarding a move before the cut-off time. While they have taken the first step towards signing him, the West London club have other targets, and striking a deal with the Seagulls this late in the window won’t be easy.
