Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is expected to leave the club permanently before the transfer window closes later tonight.
According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea are now expected to reach an agreement with the Premier League giants to sign the £85 million attacker. Sancho is poised to join the West London club on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Sancho is not a key player for Manchester United, and he will not want to sit on the bench at Old Trafford this season. It makes sense for him to leave the club in search of regular playing time. Meanwhile, Chelsea are keen to get rid of Raheem Sterling as well. It seems that they could look to replace the 29-year-old with his compatriot this summer.
Can Sancho hit top form at Chelsea?
Sancho was regarded as a world-class talent during his time in Germany, but he never quite managed to live up to the expectations in England. He returned to the Bundesliga during the second half of last season, and he impressed during his spell at Borussia Dortmund.
The Englishman helped the German club reach the final of the UEFA Champions League as well. There is no doubt that he is a top quality player with a bright future, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can get the best out of him as well.
Chelsea need wide players who will help create goalscoring opportunities with pace, flair and technical ability. The England international is certainly a quality player capable of cutting it at the highest level and he will look to make his mark at Chelsea.
Sancho will feel that he has unfinished business in the Premier League, and he will look to prove his critics wrong. Although his time at Manchester United has not gone according to plan, he has the physical and technical attributes to develop to top class Premier League attacker.
It remains to be seen whether he can prove his worth at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will look to push for major trophies this season and the need quality signings. Signing a dynamic winger like Sancho prove to be a wise decision despite his flop £85 million move to Manchester United.
