Manchester United rule out Ben Chilwell swoop

Manchester United have been linked with a move for 27-year-old out-of-favour Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell this summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United have now abandoned their pursuit of 27-year-old Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell. They could have used a quality left-back this summer, and the Englishman would have been a superb addition for them.

The Chelsea defender has had his fair share of injury problems since moving to the West London club. But there is no doubt that he is a proven performer in the Premier League. The England international would have helped Manchester United improve defensively, and he would have added some much-needed cutting edge going forward as well.

Luke Shaw struggled with fitness problems last season, and Tyrell Malacia did not feature at all because of a serious injury. Manchester United need more depth in the left-back department, and signing the Chelsea player would have been a wise decision.

Recently, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Chilwell should look to leave the West London club to play regularly, and the opportunity to join Manchester United would have been quite attractive for the player.

The Red Devils are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they could have provided him with the platform to compete for major trophies on a regular basis. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to move for other defenders before the window closes tomorrow.

Ben Chilwell needs to leave Chelsea

The 27-year-old Chelsea defender will not get any opportunities at the West London club this season, and he will be desperate to move on. It will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer.

Chilwell cannot afford to sit on the bench at a big club at this stage of his career, and he should look to join a club where he will get regular opportunities. The English defender is at the peak of his powers, and he is a proven performer in the English top flight. The 27-year-old could improve most teams in the division, and he needs to find a new destination for himself so that he can get his career back on track with regular football once again.
