Chelsea line up late move for Jhon Duran

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are reportedly plotting a late move for the services of Aston Villa attacking sensation Jhon Duran.

Chelsea are keen on reinforcing their attack before the end of the transfer window. Enzo Maresca and Todd Boehly want to bring in an out-and-out striker and they are in talks with multiple targets. But, according to a report from Football Insider, the Blues have reignited their interest in Jhon Duran and are preparing a late move for the Aston Villa striker as a backup plan if their other deals fall through.

Duran was close to joining West Ham United in the initial phase of the window as the Hammers were prepared to offer him a significant pay hike. But, that deal collapsed following which Chelsea entered the race for the Colombian striker, who has been a part of the Villa setup for the past 18 months.

Chelsea reportedly had an agreement in principle with the player regarding a move to Stamford Bridge. They had even entered into advanced talks with Villa and a deal worth around £40 million was on the cards but both parties were unable to reach a common ground.

Jhon Duran could still leave Villa, Chelsea keen

While Duran is still a part of Unai Emery’s first team and even has a goal to his name in the new Premier League season with just 53 minutes under his belt, the 20-year-old could still leave the club before Friday night’s cut-off time.

Chelsea could be a potential destination as they have reignited their interest. While they are talking to bring in their priority options, the Blues are keeping a close eye on Duran’s situation and could launch a late move to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

While they already have a star-studded attack, striker Nicolas Jackson had a mixed run last season, and they need someone who can compete with him for a place in the starting XI. Duran is viewed as an ideal option as he fits their transfer model.
