Fulham could ponder a late move for Reiss Nelson as Marco Silva continues to look for a winger ahead of the transfer deadline.
According to TEAMtalk, Reiss Nelson could emerge as a target for Fulham ahead of the transfer deadline. The 24-year-old Arsenal academy graduate has been on the periphery of Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates as he could be allowed to leave late in this window depending on other activities in North London.
Fulham to target Reiss Nelson?
Marco Silva saw a few of their key first-teamers leave in this window, including Joao Palhinha, Tosin Adarabioyo, Willian and Bobby Decordova-Reid. While they have made some brilliant moves for players, there is still a need for a new winger, as Fulham are now pondering a move for Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson.
Arsenal could accept late bids for their homegrown star should the offers match their asking rate of around £20 million, including add-ons. Nelson is considered an expendable part of Arteta’s plans, although the Gunners will be wary of losing him at this stage of the window without finding a replacement.
Fulham could view the 24-year-old as a viable target, and the offer of staying put in London could help convince the player in a big way. Silva does need additions in the wide attacking areas and could provide Nelson with a platform to shine at Craven Cottage. The Cottagers recently signed Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal and are now about to raid the north Londoners again.
Leicester City were keen earlier, although the pursuit might have hit a snag, while West Ham were also enthusiastic. Those clubs could still be looking at the idea ahead of deadline day. But should Fulham come into the equation, they might get the upper hand in negotiations and probably the preference of the £20 million-rated winger.
Will Arsenal sell Nelson?
As mentioned earlier, Arsenal do not see Nelson as a big part of their plans. But should they sell him without finding a replacement, then they will have shortages in their attacking setup. As of now, the Gunners do not have concrete links to new attackers, although a few rumours are doing the rounds.
While Arsenal will accept an offer that matches their valuation of the homegrown talent, Arteta will be wary of losing a player without replacing him. Fans have been demanding a new striker or a wide forward to join in, as Nelson’s probable departure could be signs that the Gunners are willing to address those issues in the final days of the window.
