Chelsea make their move to sign Ivan Toney

Chelsea have made a move to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford, who is reportedly willing to fit into their new wage structure.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have made their move for Ivan Toney, with reporter Kaveh Solhekol insisting this deal could be done. The Brentford star is expected to leave the club before the deadline and is reportedly willing to fit into Chelsea’s wage structure as the Premier League remains his preference.

Chelsea to sign Ivan Toney?

The Ivan Toney saga is one to watch out for ahead of the transfer deadline day. The England international is in demand, with some high-profile clubs looking at him as an option. Still, none have come forward with a credible offer, as Brentford could be resigned into selling him for a reasonable price before the window shuts.

Chelsea have made a move for the 28-year-old Premier League attacker ahead of the final days of the window, with Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solheko believing this deal could materialise. The striker is into the final year of his contract at Brentford and has not featured in their opening games, which has given rise to rumours of an imminent move away from the club.

Chelsea are in the market for a new striker who can get them plenty of goals and Ivan Toney was discussed earlier, but never their priority target. Victor Osimhen was their primary objective, and the club have restarted talks following reports linking him to Saudi Arabia

The big stumbling block for the Osimhen deal is the wages the striker continues to demand, something Chelsea may not offer. Ivan Toney has been asking for a solid wage package from suitors. Still, the report suggests the 28-year-old Premier League attacker is willing to fit into Chelsea’s bracket to make the switch, as the Premier League remains his preference.

Ivan Toney’s deal is a big possibility

As Kaveh Solhekol suggested, this deal has plenty of legs to conclude positively, as Chelsea could potentially sign the striker they need to compete with Nicolas Jackson. Moreover, Brentford will get a good enough fee, although not anywhere close to what they had initially projected for the striker.

Toney wants to stay in the Premier League and continue proving his worth here, while he also harbours ambitions to play regularly for the national side going forward. Hence, a deal is a big possibility in the coming days, as the Blues will land a good enough player who would prefer a switch to one of the league’s high-profile sides.
