Bournemouth are on the verge of landing Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea, where the Spaniard has signed an extension.
Fabrizio Romano gave the ‘Here We Go’ on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan move to Bournemouth, with medical tests set to conclude imminently. The Spanish keeper is no longer part of the Chelsea project, as an exit seemed imminent, as he signed a year-long extension at Stamford Bridge before the move to the Cherries.
Kepa Arrizabalaga to join Bournemouth
Bournemouth have been looking for a new goalkeeper to compete with Neto for the No.1 spot this season, and so far, they have not found their central. There were rumours of an interest in disgruntled Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale, but any move may prove expensive and complicated on other levels.
They had an interest in signing Giorgi Mamardashvilli on loan for a season once his Liverpool move was finalised. However, Premier League rules prohibit any player from joining two top-flight clubs in the same summer window, and Bournemouth were unwilling to share the burden by paying a huge loan fee to Valencia.
Bournemouth were eying a late move for Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, with he 29-year-old clearly surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. The Blues had paid a record-breaking sum for a goalkeeper to sign the Basque stopper many years ago, but he has not performed to his expectations. A successful loan spell at Real Madrid did not help in the way of bringing suitors, as the idea to join the Cherries is now clear.
Bournemouth were closing in on the deal, and now they have an agreement in place with Chelsea to take the 29-year-old on a season-long loan spell at the Vitality Stadium. Now they have a deal in place, with medical tests for the Spaniard reportedly ongoing and set to conclude imminently, as there’s a broader expectation that the stopper could make their matchday squad for the weekend.
Kepa signs Chelsea extension
Chelsea have made it a policy not to allow players to run down their contracts, and that is the case with Kepa. The keeper is clearly not wanted at the club, as they have a plethora of goalkeeping options, including Kenny Penders, who will arrive next season. With the Spaniard’s contract expiring next summer, he has penned a year-long extension, which now takes his deal until 2026,
Now, Chelsea will hope he has a good enough season with Bournemouth that will open up a market for him next summer. With the extension, the Blues will command a decent fee in return next summer, as then, Kepa will certianly find a permanent solution to his future.
