Manchester United keen on Ben Chilwell

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell, as there might be some room for a new left-back.

According to Graeme Bailey, Manchester United be interested in a move for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell, as talks have taken place between the two clubs. The 27-year-old left-back is not part of the Blues plans heading into the new season, as he could be either sent on loan or in a deal to sign another player.

Manchester United are looking at Ben Chilwell

The Ben Chilwell situation at chelsea does open the doors for a move elsewhere, as the 27-year-old was offered to Manchester United, among other teams. The Bleus are not willing to take their chances with the left-back, who still has three years to run on his existing deal.

The 27-year-old Chelsea ace has barely played on a consistent basis following many injury issues, which has made others wary of investing in his stocks. The links to Manchester United emerged in stories involving Raheem Sterling who remains linked with a move to Old Trafford.

A recent report suggested Chelsea were eager for a swap deal with Manchester United involving Sterling and Jadon Sancho. Some other rumours going around pointed at Chelsea even considering adding Chilwell to the agreement to bring Sancho in addition to Sterling. Still, there are no credible sources to confirm the same.

Either way, Chelsea are open to letting the defender leave, with some suggestions pointing at Manchester United probably thinking about a loan move for the 27-year-old. If the Blues are open to letting him go with a buy option or obligation will make things easier in this pursuit, although some other clubs are also expected to come into the mix ahead of the transfer deadline.

Does Manchester United need a new left-back?

Manchester United brought in Noussair Mazraoui this summer, who can play in the left-back position. The big problem for Erik ten Hag has been the unavailability of his two left-backs, Luke Shaw and Tyrel Malacia, last season and in the opening games of the current campaign.

The fitness update of those two stars is still unclear, and there are further doubts about whether they can sustain a full season. Hence, Ten Hag has resorted to playing Diogo Dalot in that role, who does bring a lot from the right-back role. Therefore, a move for Chilwell would make sense, he is a player with immense experience in the league and could suit what Manchester United want on that flank.
