Chelsea prepared to include Raheem Sterling in swap deal to sign Jadon Sancho

Chelsea are reportedly willing to offer Raheem Sterling in a swap deal to sign Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho before the transfer deadline.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are ready to offer Raheem Sterling in a swap deal for Jadon Sancho, as talks could begin with Manchester United. The two sides are eager to get rid of those stars from their teams, and an exchange could be a viable solution, although there are plenty of complications ahead.

Raheem Sterling for Jadon Sancho?

Chelsea have made it abundantly clear in the public sphere that Raheem Sterling is no longer part of their plans. The response via Enzo Maresca came after the 29-year-old outcast’s camp posted a strong-worded online post after being dropped from the opening game against Manchester City.

Sterling has been training away from the first team and on his own since the verdict, and while there is a dire need from Chelsea’s end to offload him, his £300,000-a-week wages are a big problem. There have been several clubs making loose enquiries. But so far, none have come forward with an option, while the club are also actively trying to find external solutions.

With Sterling keen to stay in the Premier League, Chelsea are now exploring the idea of a swap deal with Manchester United for Jadon Sancho. On paper, this is a big deal considering the stature of both players, with Manchester United also keen on offloading Sancho.

Sterling’s £300,000-a-week salary is also similar to that of Sancho, although there are no indications on whether they are willing to come close to Manchester United’s £40 million asking price. In this day and age of PSR and FFP, clubs are unlikely to engage in direct swap deals, meaning these sides will have to pay either player’s valuation and mask it as an exchange of sorts.

Juventus could threaten Chelsea’s Sancho pursuit.

Juventus are in direct talks for Sancho to take him on loan for the current season, with an option or obligation also likely on the discussion board. The £40 million-rated Manchester United forward might also look at the idea of Chelsea if that means he can stay in England and start performing away from Old Trafford.

On paper, the idea of Chelsea and Manchester United engaging in a deal for the two wide forwards makes sense. However, the price of each of these stars, as well as the salaries they draw, could be an issue for either side, which casts doubt on the viability of the deal.
