Manchester United rule out Ederson move as they wait to complete Manuel Ugarte swoop

Manchester United are not pursuing a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson ahead of the transfer deadline, with Manuel Ugarte move likely.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are unlikely to sign Ederson and are not about to bid for the Atalanta midfielder despite contrasting claims. The Red Devils are focused on Manuel Ugarte as their priority midfield target and will work to finalise the deal for the PSG man.

Manchester United not moving for Ederson

Ederson has been on the radars of many top Premier League clubs since the season began, and there are still chances he could move out of Atalanta. The Italian side are not keen on losing him alongside Teun Koopmeiners in the same window, meaning they will fight to keep the 25-year-old Brazilian international on board.

Manchester United have targeted a new midfielder in this window and had considered Ederson as an alternative to top target Manuel Ugarte. There were reports that the Red Devils were preparing an offer for the 25-year-old Brazilian international, although Fabrizio Romano has now ruled out a potential move to Old Trafford.

Romano has insisted that there are no bids expected for Ederson in the final days of the window. He also suggested that Manchester United are entirely focused on the Ugarte deal as they have been closing in on a €60 million agreement with PSG.

Manchester United and PSG have advanced in talks for the Uruguayan midfielder, and he, too, wants to join the Red Devils in the coming days. Luis Enrique does not rate him any longer and has not made him part of his plans for the current season.

Manchester United need a new midfielder

The fact that Manchester United are pushing hard for the Ugarte signing indicates their desperate need for a player of that profile. The Uruguayan international is a defensive midfielder, and with Casemiro’s powers fading beyond recognition, Erik ten Hag needs someone besides young Kobbie Mainoo to progress his plans for the current season.

There are rumours that the deal for Ugarte could be a loan with a buy obligation, and should he arrive, Scott McTominay’s time could come to an end. The Scotland international has attracted enough interest and will likely join Napoli, with Manchester United not blocking his exit.
