Brentford set to sign Sepp van den Berg in £25 million deal

Brentford have agreed on a deal with Liverpool worth £25 million for the transfer of defender Sepp van den Berg after he chose the English side.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sepp van den Berg has chosen Brentford as his next destination. The Bees have agreed to pay Liverpool a £25 million fee for the 22-year-old, who did impress while on loan in Germany, as Thomas Frank’s side beat competition from Bayer Leverkusen.

Sepp van den Berg joins Brentford

Sepp van den Berg has been one of the talking points at Liverpool this summer amid plenty of reports linking him with an exit. Earlier, the defender commented that he did not like the club’s treatment of him, but he was a regular fixture during Arne Slot’s first pre-season as Liverpool boss.

With the places at centre-back seemingly full under Arne Slot, the club had decided to sell fringe players like Van den Berg. The idea here was to take advantage of the defender’s impressive loan spell at Mainz, which did attract many suitors for the defender, including PSV Eindhoven, but he wasn’t keen on a move as the pursuit cooled off

Liverpool had rejected many offers earlier, but they have confirmed an agreement with Brentford for the 22-year-old. Van den Berg has seemingly chosen the Bees over another suitor on German champions Bayer Leverkusen, with Thomas Frank’s side set to pay a £25 million package for the defender.

Liverpool had accepted £25 million bids from Brentford and Leverkusen, which left the deal in the hands of the player as he sought regular game time to further his career. Brentford are an exciting choice, as it allows the Dutchman to stay in the Premier League and experience a proper entire season in the top flight.

Brentford is the perfect choice for Van den Berg

.Thomas Frank is known to set up his defences well and is also a coach who can develop a defensive talent like Van den Berg. Whether he breaks into that starting lineup straight away remains to be seen, although he has the talent to challenge the current established order at the GTech Community Stadium.

The idea of joining Brentford over Leverkusen could also have been the chance to play regularly in the Premier League, where some of the best players do. While the idea of joining Leverkusen might have been brilliant, considering they are a massive upgrade in the Bundesliga compared to Mainz, the money on offer at Brentford might also have been a significant factor in his decision-making.
