Manchester United make offer to sign Ederson, Atalanta block exit

Manchester United recently met Atalanta to discuss a late move for Ederson, offering €50 million to sign the 25-year-old Brazilian international this summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Ederson is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a midfielder before the summer transfer window shuts down. So, they submitted a bid worth €50 million to sign the Brazilian international from Atalanta, with La Dea knocking back the offer.

Ederson and his rise at Atalanta

Ederson has established himself as a pivotal figure for Atalanta since arriving from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder has been one of the best players in Serie A in the last 12 months, going from strength to strength at the Bergamo-based club during this period.

The Brazilian international was instrumental as Atalanta won the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League title. The player has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for La Dea while chipping in with eight goals and two assists. Ederson’s exploits have helped him break into his national side, and he made his senior bow for Brazil in June.

Meanwhile, Ederson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Recent reports have linked the 25-year-old with Premier League bigwigs like Manchester United and Liverpool, with the former leading the race to secure his services in the summer transfer window.

Premier League beckons?

Manchester United’s interest in Ederson is understandable. The Red Devils have been keen on signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window, with Manuel Ugarte their top target this year. So, the Atalanta star emerged as an alternative to his fellow South American.

The latest update has revealed that Manchester United have submitted a bid worth €50 million to secure Ederson’s services before the summer transfer window. However, Atalanta will block his exit in the final week of the window as they do not have enough time to sign a replacement.

Even though Manchester United will fail with the bid worth €50 million to secure Ederson’s services, the rejection might not be an issue. The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Uruguayan international being their holding midfield reinforcement.
