Manchester City eyeing Kyogo Furuhashi swoop, need to pay £20 million

Manchester City will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old versatile Japanese attacker Kyogo Furuhashi, with Celtic demanding around £20 million to sell him.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Kyogo Furuhashi is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are keen on bolstering their attack before the summer transfer window shuts down after losing Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. The Celtic attacker has thus emerged as a target, with the Scottish champions demanding around £20 million to sell him.

Who is Kyogo Furuhashi?

Kyogo Furuhashi has been a reliable performer since joining Celtic from Vissel Kobe in July 2021. A native of Ikoma, Nara, Japan, he spent his formative years and most of his career thus far in Japan. The Asian attacker passed through Sakuragaoka FC, Aspergas Ikoma FC, Kokoku HS, and Chuo University in his days in age-group football before rising in prominence at Vissel Kobe.

The 29-year-old has been a productive forward for Celtic, with his versatility making him an asset for the European regulars. Furuhashi, who can play across the frontline, contributed to 24 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions last season by finding the back of the net 19 times and providing five assists.

Meanwhile, Kyogo Furuhashi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Reports in the last 12 months have linked the Japanese international with Tottenham Hotspur. However, his next destination might be Manchester City.

Premier League beckons

Manchester City’s interest in Kyogo Furuhashi might have come out of nowhere, but it makes sense. The Premier League champions have bolstered their attack this summer by signing Savinho, while Oscar Bobb has secured promotion to the first-team squad. However, Julian Alvarez’s departure has changed the dynamic, with Manchester City not having a backup striker.

Furuhashi has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester City, considering he can play across the frontline. The 29-year-old versatile attacker will not cost a bomb either, with Celtic demanding around £20 million to part ways with him.

A move for the Japan international might see the light of day after Ilkay Gundogan rejoins Manchester City from Barcelona. However, it will be interesting to see if Manchester City will cough up £20 million to secure Kyogo Furuhashi’s services this summer.
