Fabrizio Romano rules out Chelsea move for Jadon Sancho

Fabrizio Romano has potentially ruled out a move to Chelsea for Jadon Sancho, as he insisted the winger’s future is open at this stage.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Chelsea may not move for Jadon Sancho despite reports stating the contrary. The transfer expert has ruled out a move for the 24-year-old Manchester United ace to Stamford Bridge for the time being, insisting the winger’s future remains open.

No Chelsea move for Jadon Sancho?

Jadon Sancho is still a big problem Manchester United hopes to resolve before the transfer deadline. There have been numerous enquiries for the winger, but none have come close to offering what the Red Devils want to sell him.

Manchester United could also be open to a loan deal, with Juventus interested, should the agreement come with a mandatory clause to seal the transfer next summer. A dry loan is out of the question, while they are pessimistic about a buy-option.

Selling Sancho would bring them some much-needed funds and free up their wages in a big way. Chelsea were linked recently, while PSG bowed out of the race. The Blues have a plethora of wingers and recently banished Raheem Sterling from their first-team squad and training. Yet, they might have credible links to the 24-year-old Manchester United ace, should they be available.

However, Fabrizio Romano has ruled out the possibility of Sancho joining Chelsea for the time being. He insisted the Blues were focused on the signing of Joao Felix, whom they have signed from Atletico Madrid, as there are doubts whether they will move for another winger.

Romano said, “I’m aware there have been some reports of Manchester United expecting Chelsea to move for Jadon Sancho, but my understanding for now is that Chelsea’s full focus was and is on Joao Felix.”

“I’m not aware of anything else at this point, but I can also confirm as I said several times that Jadon Sancho’s future is still open. Things can still happen for Jadon, it’s clear feeling on both club and player side. Let’s see what’s going to happen.”

Why were Chelsea linked with Sancho?

The ongoing saga with Sterling, as well as the impending future of Noni Madueke, might have made Chelsea consider signing another winger like Sancho. Madueke remains linked with Newcastle United, and the plethora of attacking arrivals this summer may have seen the English wide man consider his immediate future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea signed Pedro Neto, and with the arrival of Felix, the door for new wingers might have closed this summer. Chelsea might still look to sign a top-draw No.9 with Victor Osimhen as their priority target, according to the latest reports.
