Chelsea ready to sell Axel Disasi amid Newcastle United links

Chelsea will entertain offers to part ways with 26-year-old French defender Axel Disasi in the summer transfer window amid his recent links with Newcastle United.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Axel Disasi is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing a centre-back before the summer transfer window, with the Chelsea defender emerging as a target this week. The Blues are ready to cash in on the 26-year-old, thus boosting the Tyneside club’s prospects of landing him.

Axel Disasi at Chelsea: The story so far

Axel Disasi has blown hot and cold since joining Chelsea from AS Monaco in a deal worth £39 million in 2023. A native of Gonesse, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at three clubs and graduating from the youth division at Paris FC.

Disasi’s stock soared during his spell with AS Monaco, alerting high-profile clubs like Manchester United before Chelsea secured his services. The 26-year-old was a regular for the West London club last summer, turning 44 times thus far while chipping in with three goals.

However, the French defender, like many of his teammates, has been a victim of the infamous hoarding policy at Chelsea. The Blues are ready to part ways with several high-profile names like Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling, while Conor Gallagher has joined Atletico Madrid. Disasi is the next in line on the chopping block, with Chelsea willing to sell him amid his emerging links with Newcastle United.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Newcastle United’s interest in Axel Disasi is understandable. The Magpies have already signed one centre-back in the summer transfer window, with Lloyd Kelly completing a Bosman move after his contract with Bournemouth expired. However, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles on the sidelines for a few more months, Newcastle United can do with another central defender.

In addition, Fabian Schar saw red in Newcastle United’s Premier League opener against Southampton last week. Marc Guehi has been the Tyneside outfit’s priority target, but a deal might not see the light of day due to dragging negotiations with Crystal Palace. Disasi has thus emerged as an alternative.

With Chelsea ready to cash in on the 26-year-old Frenchman, Newcastle United might feel they have a chance of landing him in the coming days. However, it will be interesting to see if the Blues recoup the £39 million they paid to secure Axel Disasi’s services in 2023 or make a loss on his sale.
