Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been given the opportunity to sign Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell before the end of the window.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Ben Chilwell. The Red Devils could solve their crisis at left-back by bringing in the English full-back, who is surplus to requirements at Chelsea.
The Blues signed the 27-year-old back in 2020 from Leicester City for a fee of around £45 million. He was an integral part of their first team in the initial years and played a big part in helping them win the UEFA Champions League in 2021. But, the Englishman has gone down the pecking order in recent seasons.
Over the last two seasons, Chilwell has only had limited game time as injuries have troubled him. While he still has two years left on his deal, Chelsea’s new boss Enzo Maresca has informed the English international that he is no longer a part of their plans moving ahead.
Maanchester United can sign Chilwell
Chilwell was left out of Chelsea’s squad for their opening league fixture against Manchester City as they look for a new destination for the left-back. Meanwhile, Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign the former Leicester City full-back, who still has quite a few years left in him.
The Red Devils have started the season without an out-and-out left-back as both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are out injured. Noussair Mazraoui was used on the left side of the defence in their opening league fixture.
Given how tough it was for Erik ten Hag to cope without a proper left-back last season, Manchester United are expected to sign one before the end of the window, and Chilwell could be a great option given the amount of experience he has of playing in the Premier League.
Chilwell has started to assess his options after being told by the manager that he is unlikely to get enough minutes under him. Old Trafford could be his next destination as the Blues are unlikely to stand in his way if they get a decent offer for the 27-year-old, who still has two years left on his deal at Stamford Bridge.
