Al-Hilal have secured a €35 million agreement to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City amidst interest from Barcelona.
The transfer saga involving Joao Cancelo could end in the near future as Al-Hilal are closing in on the Manchester City star’s signature. According to City Report, the Saudi Pro League giants have reached an agreement with the Premier League giants to sign the Portuguese full-back in a deal worth over €35 million.
Just a couple of seasons back, Cancelo was at the peak of his powers, and he was one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. But, lack of game time resulted in a rift between the Portuguese international and the Spanish manager. Things have only gone downhill for the 30-year-old since.
He had a short stint a Bayern Munich before joining Barcelona on a season-long loan spell last season. Cancelo had quite an impact on the Spanish club, he was involved in 42 matches and even contributed towards nine goals. He featured on both flanks and even played as a right winger when needed.
The Spanish giants wanted to sign him on a permanent basis, and they were looking to figure out a way in the initial phase of the window. But, those talks slowly faded away as Barcelona started focusing on attacking reinforcement.
While they would love to have Cancelo in their squad, he does not seem to be a financially feasible option for them at this stage. The Portuguese defender still has three years left on his deal at City. But he is unlikely to get any minutes under Guardiola.
Al-Hilal pushing for Cancelo, €35 million deal agreed
The player is pushing for a move away, and Manchester City have also been looking for an ideal destination for the 30-year-old who still has a few years left in him. Al-Hilal have emerged as a potential destination for Cancelo. The Saudi Pro League club is already home to some of the biggest stars, and they are looking to add a few more before the end of the window.
While the player prefers staying in Europe, a move to the Middle East could help him earn a lucrative deal. Al-Hilal have already stepped up their pursuit as they have been in negotiations with Manchester City and have already reached an agreement worth over €35 million to sign the former Benfica winger.
