West Ham United make initial approach for Carlos Soler

West Ham United have enquired about PSG midfielder Carlos Soler, with the East London side still looking to strengthen their midfield.

According to Florian Plettenberg, West Ham are interested in Carlos Soler and have enquired about the 27-year-old midfielder. PSG are reportedly open to selling him for the right price, with the Hammers still looking to strengthen their midfield areas.

West Ham keen on Carlos Soler

Once regarded as the future of the Spanish midfield, Carlos Soler’s career has not panned the way many envisaged. Despite many links to other top clubs two years ago, his move to PSG opened up a new avenue for the former Valencia star. But things have not worked so well in Paris.

Soler, at best, is a fringe player at the Ligue 1 club, and the amount of minutes he has garnered in those two years paints a clear picture. PSG had planned on bringing in a new midfielder this summer. So, Soler was offered to many Premier League sides around the end of May.

Joao Neves’s arrival from Benfica puts the 27-year-old Ligue 1 winner’s future into doubt, as he could leave alongside Manchester United-linked Manuel Ugarte. As for Soler, he could move before the transfer deadline, with West Ham showing an interest earlier this month.

The Hammers were keen to accelerate the move and have now enquired the 27-year-old midfielder. According to a report in The Guardian, PSG value him at around £20 million, more than what they paid Valencia two years ago. Whether the Hammers have that money to spend after a significant outlay on new arrivals remains unknown, but this transfer could materialise.

West Ham looking to strengthen midfield areas

Despite making some interesting signings during the close season, including getting in a new midfielder in Guido Rodriguez, West Ham are still looking to strengthen their midfield areas. They have numerous options there, including James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, who were on the bench for their opening-day home defeat to Aston Villa.

Soler adds some spark in those middle areas, although some may argue this is an unnecessary addition to Julen Lopetegui’s side. Either way, the coming days will give a clearer picture of whether they are serious about pursuing the PSG star and bringing him to London.
