PSV Eindhoven rule out Tyrell Malacia swoop after brief interest

2023/24 Eredivisie winners PSV Eindhoven have reportedly ruled out a late summer move for 25-year-old injury-riddled Manchester United full-back Tyrell Malacia.

According to a report by Dutch outlet Soccer News, Tyrell Malacia has been the subject of interest from PSV Eindhoven. The 2023/24 Eredivisie winners briefly considered a late move for the injury-riddled Manchester United defender. However, they have ruled out signing the 25-year-old and set their sights on other targets.

Tyrell Malacia and his Manchester United spell so far

Tyrell Malacia has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Feyenoord in July 2022. The move for the Dutchman came out of nowhere, although the agreement gave then-new manager Erik Ten Hag a handy backup for Luke Shaw.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season with Manchester United, making his mark whenever he had the opportunity to take the field. However, Malacia endured a horrific 2023/24 campaign as his injury nightmare surfaced and kept him on the sidelines all term. That contributed to Manchester United’s left-back crisis, with Shaw also dealing with fitness issues.

The Dutch defender has yet to regain fitness, and some reports have claimed that he might miss most of the 2024/25 season. Nevertheless, Tyrell Malacia’s stock in the market remains high, with PSV Eindhoven briefly considering a move for the injury-riddled Manchester United full-back this summer.

Eredivisie return on the horizon?

PSV Eindhoven’s interest in Tyrell Malacia made sense. The 2023/24 Eredivisie winners have been keen on bolstering their backline this summer, and they are eager to sign a right-back, a left-back, and a centre-back. So, several candidates have emerged on PSV Eindhoven’s radar, with the Dutch champions recently considering a move for Sepp van den Berg.

However, the Eredivisie winners have cooled their interest in the Liverpool prospect after the Reds rejected their bid. That is also the case for Malacia, with PSV Eindhoven ruling out a late move for the 25-year-old injury-riddled Manchester United full-back.

The stance is understandable, considering Malacia has no set timeline to return from his injury horrors. So, PSV Eindhoven’s decision to look elsewhere for a left-back makes sense, with the Dutchman unlikely to leave Manchester United this summer.
