Newcastle United considering Axel Disasi as Marc Guehi alternative

Newcastle United are looking to approach Chelsea for the services of Axel Disasi as an alternative to Marc Guehi.

Newcastle United are desperate to bring in a new central defender before the end of the transfer window. While they have been working hard to secure the services of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, things have not worked out as planned. According to a report from The Athletic, the Magpies are considering making a move for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, who is considered to be an alternative to the English centre-back.

Guehi has been on the top of Newcastle United’s wishlist for a while now. The former Chelsea academy star has done wonders for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and he was sensational at UEFA Euro 2024 for Gareth Southgate’s England. His work has not gone unnoticed and quite a few clubs have been trying to prise him away.

Newcastle United have already tabled multiple bids to sign the 24-year-old, but the Eagles have rejected every offer so far. Their last bid was worth around £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons. However, Crystal Palace want over £70 million.

While Eddie Howe’s team have not given up on Guehi yet, they have started to look at alternatives. Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is one of the names on their wishlist. With Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman out injured, the Magpies only have two out-and-out central defenders in the team, and Eddie Howe is desperate to have more quality as well as depth. It is quite understandable why they are looking to go all out to sign the English international.

Newcastle United keen on signing Axel Disasi

With things not going according to plan, Newcastle United feel the 26-year-old French international could be an ideal alternative. The Magpies have already expressed their interest in the Chelsea centre-back, who did wonders in the Premier League last season.

After making a name for himself at AS Monaco, Disasi made the move to England last summer. He was involved in 44 games for the Blues, and his performances surely did not go unnoticed. While he is currently out injured, the French centre-back was an integral part of their first team last season. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea are ready to negotiate his departure.
