Manchester United make approach for Ederson

Manchester United have reportedly “asked for information” about 25-year-old Brazilian international Ederson regarding a late move from Atalanta.

According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla on Sport Italia, Ederson is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils remain keen on signing a midfielder before the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights have submitted an enquiry regarding a late move for the Brazilian international, although a summer transfer is unlikely.

The rise and rise of Ederson at Atalanta

Ederson has established himself as a pivotal figure for Atalanta since arriving from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder has taken to Serie A like a fish to water, taking no time to make his mark in the Italian top flight in the last two-plus years.

The 25-year-old has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Atalanta while chipping in with eight goals and two assists. Ederson’s exploits have helped him break into his national side, and he made his debut for Brazil in June 2024.

Meanwhile, Ederson’s progress at Atalanta has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Brazilian international, with Manchester United recently joining the race to sign him from the Serie A club.

Premier League beckons?

Manchester United’s interest in Ederson is understandable. The Red Devils have been keen on bolstering their midfield department by signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. Manuel Ugarte is Manchester United’s priority target. However, with talks between the Premier League outfit and Paris Saint-Germain stalling in recent weeks, the Atalanta midfielder emerged as a viable target.

The 25-year-old can be a top-class addition to the Manchester United midfield. The Red Devils have submitted an enquiry to “ask for information” about him. However, the report suggests that a deal will not see the light of day before next year, although contacts will likely continue in the coming months.

Meanwhile, with Manchester United closing in on signing Ugarte from PSG, their midfield unit is close to completion. So, a deal to secure Ederson’s services should wait until next year, although Manchester United might face stiff competition for his signature if he continues making his mark for La Dea.
