Chelsea give the green light for Conor Gallagher to seal Atletico Madrid move

Chelsea have permitted Conor Gallagher to travel to Spain to complete his move with Atletico Madrid in the next 24/48 hours.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have permitted Conor Gallagher to travel back to Spain to finalise the move to Atletico Madrid. The green light comes after the Blues agreed a deal to bring Joao Felix back to Stamford Bridge, as the Spanish giants still want to sign the England midfielder for their squad.

Conor Gallagher to finalise Atletico Madrid move

After a period of uncertainty about whether Atletico Madrid will be able to sign Conor Gallagher, the deal seems close to completion. The Spanish side agreed a deal with Chelsea earlier this month for the 24-year-old midfielder, but it has since been held up after events in England.

Chelsea’s move for Samu Omorodion stalled following disagreements with the player’s side, which in turn put the brakes on Atletico’s transfer of Gallagher. The Spanish giants made it clear they would only sign the midfielder if they could sell Omorodion to Chelsea or elsewhere, and at this stage, the Blues proposed the idea of signing Joao Felix instead.

The move for the Portuguese star is almost done on all ends, which has, in turn, resulted in Chelsea giving their green light for Gallagher to travel back to Spain. Since Atletico’s agreement for the midfielder, the 24-year-old completed his medical tests and signed the contract, only for the La Liga side to stall on their part of the agreement.

Now that the pathway is clear for Gallagher to travel back to Spain, it’s only a matter of time before Atletico signs their side of the contract and announces the player in their squad. Diego Simeone reportedly kept pressing to bring the 24-year-old England international, and he might have got his wish.

Gallagher’s move never collapsed

Despite many reports suggesting the contrary, the Gallagher deal with Atletico never collapsed. Chelsea were desperate to find a solution to sell the midfielder. The La Liga side’s original agreement worth €42 million remains intact as they were waiting for one big sale to materialise before signing the 24-year-old contract.

The two clubs were closing in on deals for Gallagher and Felix, and with either player set to travel in the opposite direction, things are in place to announce the signings. Meanwhile, Atletico will also look to sell Omorodion at all costs before the window shuts, with a few clubs keen on the attacker, but Chelsea are not among the suitors.
