Barcelona eyeing Federico Chiesa as Nico Williams alternative

Barcelona might consider signing 26-year-old Italian international Federico Chiesa this summer, with Juventus demanding €14 million to sell him.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Federico Chiesa is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on signing a wide attacker before the summer transfer window shuts down. So, they have set their sights on the Italian international, with Juventus demanding around €14 million to part ways with him.

Federico Chiesa and his topsy-turvy Juventus journey

Federico Chiesa was once among the best attackers in the world, going from strength to strength in his first two seasons with Juventus. He also helped Italy win UEFA Euro 2020, with his stock soaring in the early 2020s. However, his stature has reduced in recent campaigns, with fitness issues and poor form hampering his progress.

The 26-year-old managed only ten goals and three assists in 37 outings across all competitions in the 2023/24 season. Chiesa was not at the races during UEFA Euro 2024 either, as he drew a blank in his four appearances in the competition. Things have gone from bad to worse in the last few weeks, with Thiago Motta banishing him from the first-team picture.

With the Italian international not in Motta’s plans, his spell with Juventus will end in the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants want around €14 million to part ways with him, with his €6 million-a-year wages making him an attractive target for many well-known clubs. Meanwhile, Federico Chiesa’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona interested in Chiesa

Intermediaries recently offered Barcelona the chance to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus in the summer transfer window. It seems the Catalan giants have responded to the opportunity, with the Juventus outcast emerging as an alternative to Nico Williams.

The Spanish international was Barcelona’s top target for the summer transfer window but will likely remain at Athletic Club after taking the no. 10 shirt. So, Chiesa has emerged as an alternative for the Blaugrana as they look to bolster their wide attacking options.

The 26-year-old Italian international is not on a high salary either, and Barcelona should have the means to afford his €6 million-a-year wages once they balance the books. In addition, they should have the funds to cough up the €14 million that Juventus will require to part ways with the out-of-favour attacker.
