Chelsea and Atletico Madrid’s discussions for the Conor Gallagher-Joao Felix double deal could be heading to a positive conclusion. The Spanish giants had earlier reached an agreement for the midfielder, with the England international even completing a medical and signing his contract.
Atletico did not sign their part of the agreement as soon as word of Chelsea’s failure to complete the Samu Omorodion deal reached their ears. The collapse of that move changed everything with regard to the agreement between the two clubs, as the Roji Blancos may have sought to find a new formula with the London giants.
In the coming days, Chelsea expressed their intent to sell Gallagher still and instead began focusing on signing Joao Felix instead of Omorodion. The two clubs are optimistic about the Portuguese star, although Fabrizio Romano quashed reports stating he would cost over €60 million.
Either way, the two clubs are now close to negotiating a double deal, despite some reports stating Chelsea were open to keeping the midfielder. However, they are keen to get the midfielder out of the door, as it’s essential for their finances and future transfers.
Why the Gallagher sale is vital for Chelsea?
Chelsea agreed to a deal close to €35 million to sell Gallagher, and in the context of their finances, this fee would have been regarded as pure profit. This means they could be more flexible in the transfer market for new signings, and hence, they are desperate to find an agreement with Atletico Madrid.
Moreover, Felix is a player the current Chelsea owner knows very well following his loan spell from January 2023. The player is open to joining the Blues, who, on the other hand, cannot realistically keep Gallagher unless he signs a new deal, considering he has already entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
