Newcastle United will block Bruno Guimaraes move to Arsenal

Newcastle United are unlikely to entertain any late bids from Arsenal for Bruno Guimaraes, as there is barely any time left to find a replacement.

According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle United are uninterested in letting Bruno Guimaraes leave so late in the window. They will likely block any bids from the likes of Arsenal or others, as there is barely any time left to find a suitable replacement.

Newcastle United to keep Bruno Guimaraes?

When the transfer window opened, there was plenty of chatter around Bruno Guimaraes’s future, with some credible media reporting suggesting Newcastle United may have to fight to keep him. The Brazilian midfield general had a £100 million release clause, which expired at the end of June, as the Magpies kept hold of him.

Reports had widely suggested Newcastle United would look to sell him for that price or even less to fulfil their PSR obligations. However, they found other solutions through the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, which allowed them to keep hold of stars like Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

While talk of the midfielder leaving the club has died down considerably, there might be some movement late in the window. Arsenal and Manchester City are still interested. Newcastle United even considered discussing the latter with Oscar Bobb, a player of interest from the Magpies.

However, Newcastle United have reached the point in their transfer window when they will not entertain any late bids for their midfield general, who is on £200,000-a-week wages. Bruno Guimaraes still has four years to run on his contract, but more importantly, the Magpies feel they do not have sufficient time to find a suitable replacement should the Brazilian depart at this stage.

Arsenal unlikely to pursue Guimaraes

Arsenal had shown interest earlier in the window. But they did not want to pay the £100 million release clause in the midfielder’s contract. They might have made a bid had Newcastle United reduced their asking price for the Brazilian, which was never a probability.

The Gunners are advancing for Mikel Merino, and as the deal inches closer, the likelihood of them pursuing Bruno Guimaraes is unlikely. While they might make a move for the Brazilian in the future, for the time being, they are unlikely to make a bid of any sort for the Newcastle mainstay.
