Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of completing a move for 19-year-old attacking prospect Divin Mubama after his West Ham United exit.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Divin Mubama will soon join Manchester City. The rumour has appeared out of nowhere, and the Premier League champions have beaten Famalicao and Lyon to his signature after hijacking their move. The 19-year-old will soon arrive at the Etihad before embarking on a loan spell.
Who is Divin Mubama?
Divin Mubama barely got the opportunity to make his mark at West Ham United, even though he has been a highly-rated attacker in age-group football. A native of London, the Englishman spent his formative years with West Ham United after joining the East London club as a nine-year-old in 2013.
The 19-year-old rapidly rose through the ranks at West Ham United before breaking into the first-team squad two years ago. Mubama made his first-team bow for West Ham in November 2022 but managed only 18 appearances for the East London club’s senior side while chipping in with one goal and one assist.
However, Divin Mubama’s spell with West Ham United ended as he did not renew his contract with the East London club and became a free agent last month. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. However, the English striker’s next destination is Manchester City.
Surprise Manchester City move beckons
Manchester City’s links with Divin Mubama have surprised many. The Premier League champions have not aggressively pursued a move for many players in the summer transfer window. However, Julian Alvarez’s move to Atletico Madrid might have forced Manchester City’s hand.
The Premier League champions thus dipped their toes in the market for a striker, with Mubama emerging as a viable target. So, while Lyon and Famalicao pushed hard for the former West Ham United attacking prospect’s signature, they have lost the race to secure his services to Manchester City.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the Englishman is on the verge of completing a Bosman move to Manchester City. In addition, he will likely remain at Manchester City this season before embarking on a loan move. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for him.
