Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Aston Villa and Chelsea keen on signing him.

According to Graeme Bailey on HITC, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery remains an admirer of Joao Felix, and he wants to sign the player this summer. The report states that the West Midlands club are willing to offer £50 million to sign the player, and they will offer him a contract with around £115,000-a-week wages as well.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with Felix as well as they look to improve their attacking unit. The move for Samu Omorodion has collapsed, and the Blues are looking at alternatives. Felix has been identified as an option.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can win the race for his signature. The player has now been urged to move to Aston Villa by former Manchester United forward Terry Gibson. Gibson feels that Felix needs to join a club where he will have the backing of the manager and Emery could bring out the best in him.

“I think they might still get £50 million for Joao Felix, because of his age,” Gibson tells El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast. “There is a little bit of star quality there still. He needs a manager that backs him. Unai Emery is keen to get (him). He needs that manager who really wants him.”

Aston Villa move could be ideal for Felix

There is no doubt that they Aston Villa manager is one of the best in Europe, and he could play a key role in the development of the Portuguese international. Joao Felix was a world-class talent when he joined Atletico Madrid, but his development has stalled in recent years. Playing under a quality manager, who will back his ability and give him the freedom he requires could be ideal for him.

It will be interesting to see where the player ends up. Chelsea are an attractive destination for Joao Felix as well. He has played for the Blues on loan in the past, and a return to Stamford Bridge will certainly be tempting. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the country, and they have the finances to tempt Atletico Madrid and the player.

Joao Felix must seek game-time assurances before joining a new club this summer. He needs to join a club where he will be a regular starter. He cannot afford to sit on the bench at this stage of his career.
