Luis Diaz reaches agreement to join Manchester City, move ruled out

Manchester City have agreed a five-year deal with Liverpool attacking mainstay Luis Diaz, but the move has been ruled out.

According to El Chiringuito TV, Manchester City are keen on acquiring the services of Luis Diaz and they have managed to agree on personal terms with the Liverpool star. Pep Guardiola’s team are willing to fork out €70 million to make it happen.

Diaz has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Reds in the winter of 2022 after making a name for himself at FC Porto. He has been an integral part of their first team. Last season, he was Jurgen Klopp’s preferred choice on the left flank.

He was involved in 51 matches and ended up contributing towards 18 goals (13 goals, 5 assists). While he still has three years left on his deal at the Merseyside club and is expected to be an important player under Arne Slot, the 27-year-old Colombian international has been linked with a move away.

Luis Diaz’s uncertain future

Reports suggest Liverpool are looking for an upgrade on the left flank. The Reds have their eyes on Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and if selling Diaz can make it happen, they are willing to let go of the South American star who has just returned after guiding Colombia to the final of Copa America.

Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Liverpool winger for a while now. But, it seems Manchester City are also interested in his services. The English champions are also on the lookout for opportunities to further strengthen their team, and Diaz could be a great option for Pep Guardiola.

Luiz Diaz to Manchester City ruled out

The report from El Chiringuito suggests there is an agreement between Manchester City and Diaz on a five-year deal and Guardiola’s team are willing to table €70 million. But, transfer expert Sam Lee has completely ruled out the move. He does not see it happening this summer and has suggested that there is no validity to the rumours.

The reports linking Diaz to Manchester City do look far-fetched given the depth and quality the Premier League champions already have in the wide areas. However, things could change in case someone ends up leaving.
