Chelsea open to keeping Conor Gallagher and agreeing new deal after recent twist

Chelsea could look to keep hold of their academy graduate Conor Gallagher, the Blues are open to negotiating a new contract following recent developments.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Chelsea are open to changing their stance on the future of Conor Gallagher. While they have been looking to get him off their books throughout the summer, the Blues are open to extending his stay at the club after recent developments with regards to his move to Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher has been a part of the Chelsea first team since the summer of 2022. He has hardly put a foot wrong and was one of their standout performers last season. But, with less than 12 months left on his contract, his future has been up in the air.

Gallagher’s move to Atletico Madrid in danger

While the Blues are ready to offer him a new deal, the two parties have not been able to reach a common ground. The West London club do not want to miss out on him for free next summer, as a result, they have been open to negotiating his departure.

Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on his signature. But they haven’t been able to make progress in negotiations with their rivals. There is significant interest in his services from Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone is a huge admirer of the 24-year-old midfielder and wants him in his squad.

The Colchoneros were in negotiations with Chelsea, and their £34 million offer was accepted by the Blues. Simeone’s men even managed to convince Gallagher about a move to Atletico Madrid. With everything in place, Gallagher travelled to Madrid for his medical. But, things have not gone according to plan and the move could fall out.

Chelsea open to negotiating a new contract

After having spent around a week in a hotel in Madrid, Chelsea have asked their player to return to London as Atletico have not been able to get the deal over the line. They need to make a sale to make things happen, and it has not happened yet. Gallagher is expected to be in London by now, which means a move to the Madrid-based club is a bit more complicated for now.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have refused to rule out the possibility of tying their academy graduate to a new deal. The contract offer of two years plus 12 months, which he rejected before the Blues agreed to sell him to Atletico Madrid is still on the table and they are willing to revisit it.
