Chelsea move for Samu Omorodion breaks down

Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Chelsea most keen.

Samu Omorodion recently won an Olympic gold medal with Spain, and he was expected to join Chelsea in the summer transfer window. However, a report from HITC has claimed that the move has collapsed due to a major contract issue.

Chelsea are keen on signing a quality striker this summer, and they were hoping to get a deal done for the 20-year-old. The player underwent his medical at Cobham ahead of completing the transfer. But it seems that there is a contractual issue between Chelsea and the youngster. So, the deal is now off.

The striker was expected to sign a seven-year contract with the Premier League club. He had a loan spell at Deportivo Alaves last season, making an impression at the Basque club. The striker managed to score nine goals in La Liga, and he could have been a quality acquisition for Chelsea.

The Blues are in need of a quality goalscorer this summer. Nicolas Jackson has not been able to live up to the expectations, and Chelsea have been overly dependent on Cole Palmer for goals. The England international needs more support in the attack, and Omorodion would have been a quality long term acquisition.

Omorodion could end up at a big club

The 20-year-old has all the tools to develop into a top class centre forward, and he has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League as well. It will be interesting to see where the young striker ends up.

He will wants to join a big club where he will be able to compete for trophies regularly. The Olympic gold medalist needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and leaving Atletico Madrid permanently would be ideal for him. Chelsea could have provided him with the platform he needs right now, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

Meanwhile, Chelsea need to sign a quality goalscorer as well, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to move on to other targets after missing out on the Spanish international striker.
