Real Sociedad have offered Martin Zubimendi a bumper new deal in an attempt to keep him at the club amidst interest from Liverpool.
According to a report from Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Real Sociedad have made a desperate attempt to keep hold of their midfield star Martin Zubimendi. With Liverpool pushing hard for the signature of the Spanish international, they have offered him a bumper new deal to continue at the club.
Zubimendi has been a part of the Spanish club since his childhood days. He came up the ranks at some pace and has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2020. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has established himself as one of the mainstays of the club.
Liverpool making moves to sign Zubimendi
While he still has three years left on his deal at Sociedad, his future has been uncertain for a while now. Zubimendi has been linked with a move to the Premier League. Liverpool are pushing hard for his signature and they have already held meetings with the player over the last two weeks regarding a move to Anfield.
The Spanish international seems to have given his word to the English club about a move this summer. While he is yet to make a final decision, the Reds are quite optimistic about him joining the club.
Sociedad offer Zubimendi a bumper new deal
With Zubimendi’s final decision yet to come, Sociedad have made a late attempt to keep hold of their star. They are willing to make him and Mikel Merino the highest-paid players at the club ahead of Mikel Oyarzabal to ensure they stay.
The Spanish club are in a spot of bother with both their star players nearing an exit. Merino has already informed them about his desire to join Arsenal and with Liverpool pushing for Zubimendi, Jokin Aperribay has cut short his holiday to try and keep hold of the duo.
While they have tried everything in their power, the feeling is that the offer has come too late. More importantly, neither of them are looking for more money. Liverpool are expected to knock on the doors of Sociedad to discuss the terms of payment once Zubimendi makes a decision. The €60 million release clause is a non-negotiable but Sociedad could still look to insert a sell-on clause.
