Barcelona want more than €60 million to sell Frenkie de Jong amid Manchester United links

Barcelona could be open to selling Frenkie de Jong for more than €60 million, with Manchester United deeply interested in the midfielder.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United or any other interested side will have to pay more than that. €60 million to land Frenkie de Jong in this window. Barcelona are open to selling the 27-year-old for the right price, as the incoming money will help them reconfigure their squad.

Barcelona set Frenkie de Jong’s asking price

Frenkie de Jong is quite popular with the Barcelona fanbase, and selling him will draw plenty of criticism for the club. However, the Catalans are not in the best of financial positions, and offloading an asset like the Dutch midfielder will allow them to strategize their own window and reconfigure their squad.

Dani Olmo is almost through the door, while Barcelona is confident about Nico Williams’ arrival despite some recent setbacks in their plans for the winger. Selling some of their top players, including De Jong, might bring a solution or two for the Catalans.

Barcelona have placed a price tag of more than €60 million for clubs to consider making bids for the 27-year-old Manchester United target. The Red Devils are one of the deeply interested parties in the midfielder. They had continued to track him since failing to sign him back in 2022 when they brought in Casemiro instead.

Selling De Jong will also allow Barcelona to free up the Dutchman’s massive wages off their books, which will provide room to integrate new arrivals like Olmo and even Williams later on. For that price, more than one club might be interested, meaning Manchester United could face intense competition for the accomplished 27-year-old midfielder.

Will De Jong join Manchester United?

Erik ten Hag has continued to bring some known players from his Ajax days back to the club and could complete the jigsaw with De Jong’s arrival. Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt are about to arrive, while Andre Onana and Christian Eriksen are also here.

Manchester United might be interested in the €60 million-plus price tag, although they could face competition from Champions League sides like Arsenal and Manchester City. The big issue could be De Jong’s wages, as he would expect his current earnings to match. The big issue would be the still unresolved matter of Barcelona paying his pending dues, which could scupper any exit for the Dutchman.
