Manchester United have established contacts with Barcelona to enquire about the availability of their midfield star Frenkie de Jong.
Manchester United have a long-standing interest in the services of Frenkie de Jong, and they are looking to bring him to Old Trafford this summer. According to a report from Manchester World, the Red Devils have knocked on the doors of Barcelona to enquire about the Dutch international’s availability.
The Dutchman came up the ranks at Ajax and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team before securing a big-money move to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. While he has been a consistent performer for the Catalan giants, the Dutch midfield has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a long time.
Following the arrival of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, the Reds Devils tried to reunite Frenkie de Jong with his former Ajax boss. While they did make a move to sign him from Barcelona, Manchester United were unsuccessful in their attempt and they ended up signing Casemiro from Real Madrid instead.
Despite missing out on de Jong two years back, United still retain interest in him. They have not made an attempt in recent windows but have now decided to reignite their pursuit. Ten Hag is looking to revamp his midfield this summer.
Manchester United once again pushing for Frenkie de Jong’s signature
Manchester United are looking to part ways with Scott McTominay, Casemiro and Hannibal Mejbri this summer. They want to upgrade those positions. While the Red Devils had their eyes on Manuel Ugarte, Martin Zubimendi and Sofyan Amrabat, things have not progressed as expected, and Manchester United are once again looking at Frenkie de Jong.
The Red Devils have approached Barcelona to learn more about a potential transfer. They want to ascertain de Jong’s availability. Manchester United are quite serious about their pursuit as they are ready to strike a deal if a fee of around the £30-40 million mark can be agreed.
While the Dutch international has struggled with injuries, he remains a very important player for them. With two years still left on his deal, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona would be willing to sell him. Given their financial situation, it surely will be a difficult decision. But as far as Hansi Flick is concerned, he wants Frenkie de Jong around at all costs.
