Liverpool and Tottenham are all set to rival Atletico Madrid in the race for the services of Bayer Leverkusen defensive sensation Piero Hincapie.
According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool and Tottenham are both keen on reinforcing their defence before the end of the transfer window and they have their eyes set on Piero Hincapie. The Bayer Leverkusen star has made quite a name for himself and the English clubs are now set to battle it out with Atletico Madrid for his signature.
Hincapie has gone from strength to strength since joining the German club back in 2021. The 22-year-old played a pivotal role in Xabi Alonso’s team last season as they went unbeaten in the Bundesliga and ended Bayern Munich’s dominance.
While he remains an integral part and still has three years left on his deal, the Ecuadorian international seems keen on a move to a bigger club. He has already expressed his desire to leave and it has attracted a lot of interest from clubs across Europe.
Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs keen on signing Hincapie. Mario Hermoso has left the club upon the expiry of his contract and Diego Simeone seeks an ideal replacement. While they are interested in the Leverkusen star, the Spanish giants will need to sanction a major departure to fund his signing.
Premier League giants to battle for Piero Hincapie
Liverpool and Tottenham are both in a much better financial position and they are looking to battle it out for Hincapie’s services. Arne Slot is yet to sign a replacement for Joel Matip who has left the club after the end of his deal. The South American defender will surely bolster a defence that already has Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté and Jarell Quansah.
While Spurs already have a lot of quality in the heart of the defence, Ange Postecoglou is still keen on adding another centre-back to the mix. Hincapie could compete with Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin for a place in the starting XI alongside Cristian Romero. The Australian manager considers Hincapie to be the perfect fit for his system and his ability to feature as a left-back could come in handy.
